Full Moon among Fallen Leaves
By Qaland - Month of Falling Leaves, 15, 316
As the last leaves fall from the trees of Lazni Village, we, humble villagers, just celebrated our monthly festival.
Just two days ago, the Full Moon of Falling Leaves occurred.
It might not be a "new leaf", pun intended, for Lazni, but it is still a memorable moment in our history, even if humble.
The festival of Falling Leaves is not known for its popularity, settled right in-between three of our most important traditions, the Harvest Festival, the Freezing Festival and the Winter Festival. Each passing year, I see less and less people celebrating its passing.
I believe it should still be celebrated by many, Lazni Village, a place of traditions, loosing its traditions? I won't be having that! So, let's settle down, and talk about what makes the Falling Leaves festival, a festival to be remembered.
A Fear of Winter
The end of fall has always meant despair to our ancestors, it meant that their pathways were going to be buried in snow, their crops, now cultivated, were ever so limited, and their little homes, not so adequate to their environment, freezing over.
Diseases and a mortal cold, right at their door step. These ancestors fearful of the wrath of winter, celebrated.
Why celebrate death?
A close-knit Community
They did not celebrate death, they celebrated love, fun, community, and hope for surviving to the next spring.
These Laznis went outside, played among the fallen leaves, ate their favourite autumnal meals and hugged their loved ones.
Readying themselves for the most dangerous time of the year.
Modern Times
Today, this tradition is fading away, as is many others. Why have three winter festivals? Isn't the Winter festival enough?
These Laznis share good points, why should we? Should we really celebrate the arrival of Winter three times in a row?
Personally, I believe we should because it brings a better sense of community, each month, Laznis get together, celebrate, and learn again what it means to be a community.
We at the Lazni Gazette, think that Lazni Village is built by the bricks of its history, and that we should cherish them. Without these bricks, we would fade as a community without culture, without traditions, a community without community.
What can we do?
Is that really a hard question?
Get together, have fun, celebrate, and remember what it means to be ourselves.
Personally, I say we should because it brings a better sense of community, each month, Laznis get together, celebrate, and learn again what it means to be a community. We are Lazni Village, a community of development, but also a community of traditions, history, and... fun!
We hope you'll have fun next month, at the Freezing Festival, and that next year, you'll remember to go out, hang with your friends, and eat your favourite tourtière at the next Falling Leaves Festival!
See you next Sunday!
